We order from AliExpress weekly, and shipping costs have changed significantly over the past two years. Free shipping used to be automatic on most items. Now sellers charge for it more often, sometimes $3-5 on a $2 item. The methods below are what we actually use to avoid those fees.
Table of Contents
Use the free shipping filter
The most direct way to find products without shipping costs is AliExpress’s built-in filter. It works on both the website and app.
On the website
Search for your product using the search bar. On the results page, look for the filter bar above the product listings. Check the box next to “Free Shipping.” The page refreshes to show only items that ship free to your location.
To find the cheapest options, click “Price” in the same filter bar to sort from lowest to highest.
On the app
Search for your product, then tap “Filter” in the top right corner. Toggle on “Free Shipping” and tap “Done.” To sort by price, tap “Sort” and select “Price: Low to High.”
We use this filter on about 80% of our searches. Most product categories have free shipping options, though the selection is smaller than unfiltered results.
Shop AliExpress Choice products

AliExpress Choice is a curated program where AliExpress subsidizes shipping on selected products. Items in the program display an orange “Choice” badge.
Choice products offer:
- Free shipping on orders over $10 or when buying 3+ Choice items
- Faster delivery (often 10-15 days instead of 30-45)
- Free returns up to 3 times per month
- Products from verified sellers
To find Choice items, look for the “Choice” tab on the AliExpress homepage or filter search results to show only Choice products.
We have found Choice products arrive about two weeks faster than standard free shipping items on average. The trade-off is slightly higher base prices on some items, but the shipping savings and speed usually make up for it.
Use local warehouse shipping
Some sellers stock inventory in warehouses outside China. Shipping from a local warehouse is often free and arrives in 2-8 days instead of 3-6 weeks.
To find local stock, use the “Ships From” filter in search results. Select your country or region (US, UK, EU, etc.). Not all products have local warehouse options, but when available, this is the fastest free shipping method.
We order from US warehouses when available for items we need quickly. The product selection is more limited than shipping from China, but delivery times rival domestic retailers.
Meet seller free shipping thresholds
Many sellers offer free shipping once your order reaches a minimum amount. Common thresholds are $5, $10, $15, or $20 depending on the seller and your destination country.
To check a seller’s threshold:
- Open the product listing
- Scroll to the shipping section
- Look for text like “Free shipping on orders over $X” or check if shipping costs change when you increase quantity
If you are close to the threshold, add a small item from the same seller to push your total over. We have done this dozens of times with items like phone screen protectors, cables, or stickers that cost under $1.
Use image search to find cheaper shipping
If you found the right product but shipping costs too much, another seller may offer the same item with free shipping.
In the AliExpress app:
- Take a screenshot of the product
- Tap the camera icon in the search bar
- Upload the screenshot
- Browse visually similar products from different sellers
The image search results do not show shipping costs directly, so you need to tap into each listing to check. Add promising options to your cart to compare total prices (item + shipping).
We use this method when a product we want has $4-5 shipping. About half the time we find an identical or very similar item with free shipping from another seller.
Negotiate shipping costs with sellers

For multi-item orders from the same seller, you can often get shipping waived or reduced by asking. This works best when the seller sees you are serious about buying.
Here is the process we use:
- Add all items from one seller to your cart
- Proceed to checkout
- On the payment screen, enter an incorrect CVV (like “000”) for your card
- Click “Pay Now” – the payment will fail
- Close the browser or app completely
- Reopen AliExpress and go to “My Orders”
- The order now shows as “Pending Payment”
- Message the seller asking for reduced or free shipping
Sample message: “I placed order #[number] for [quantity] items. Can you remove the shipping cost? I will pay immediately after you adjust it.”
Sellers see a real pending order, which signals genuine intent. Most respond within 24-48 hours. If they agree, they modify the order total. If they decline, the unpaid order cancels automatically after a few days with no penalty.
We have used this successfully on orders of 3+ items. Single-item requests rarely work unless the item is expensive.
Use coupons and coins to offset shipping
AliExpress does not issue free shipping coupons directly. However, you can use platform coupons, seller coupons, and AliExpress Coins to reduce your total cost enough to cancel out shipping fees.
| Discount type | How to get it | Typical value |
|---|---|---|
| Platform coupons | Claim during sales or in the coupon center | $2-$10 off orders over $X |
| Seller coupons | Visit seller’s store page and click “Get Coupons” | $1-$5 off store purchases |
| AliExpress Coins | Daily check-ins, games, leaving reviews | 50 coins = $1 off |
| New user coupons | Create new account or first purchase | Up to $24 in welcome discounts |
During major sales like 11.11 or the summer sale, stacking these discounts often reduces your order cost by more than the shipping fee.
We collect coins through daily check-ins throughout the year, then redeem them during sales when they stack with other discounts.
Shop during major sale events
AliExpress mandates free shipping across many listings during its largest sales. These events offer the best chance to get free shipping on items that normally charge for it.
| Sale | When | Free shipping coverage |
|---|---|---|
| 11.11 Global Shopping Festival | November 11 | Broadest free shipping of the year |
| 12.12 Year-End Sale | December 12 | Strong shipping promotions |
| 3.28 Anniversary Sale | Late March | Wide free shipping coverage |
| Summer Sale | July | Mid-year shipping deals |
| Black Friday | Late November | US-focused deals |
Mark these dates on your calendar if you have non-urgent purchases. Items that cost $3-5 to ship normally often become free shipping during sales.
Choose slower free shipping methods
Some listings offer both paid fast shipping and free slow shipping. Always check the shipping dropdown menu before buying.
Free shipping methods include:
- AliExpress Saver Shipping (30-50 days)
- Cainiao Super Economy (30-60 days)
- China Post Ordinary Small Packet (30-60 days)
- Yanwen Economic Air Mail (30-45 days)
These methods have limited tracking (often only shows departure from China and arrival in destination country) and longer delivery times. But if you are not in a hurry, they save $2-5 per order.
We use these for items we do not need quickly: phone cases, cables, craft supplies, clothing basics.
Why “free shipping” sometimes costs you more
Free shipping is not always the cheapest option. Some sellers inflate item prices to absorb shipping costs, making the “free shipping” listing more expensive than a similar item with paid shipping.
Example we encountered:
- Seller A: Item $4.50 + $2.50 shipping = $7.00 total
- Seller B: Item $8.00 + free shipping = $8.00 total
Always compare total cost (item + shipping), not just whether shipping is free. The free shipping filter is a starting point, not the final answer.
We add items to the cart to see the exact total before buying. The product listing page sometimes shows different shipping costs than what appears at checkout.
Check shipping cost at checkout
Shipping prices displayed on product pages are not always final. The actual shipping cost can change at checkout based on your exact address, order weight, and current carrier rates.
Before completing payment:
- Add items to cart
- Go to checkout
- Review the shipping line item
- Compare against what you expected
We have seen shipping costs increase by $1-2 at checkout on about 1 in 10 orders. If the price changed, you can remove the item without penalty since you have not paid yet.
Final thoughts
The free shipping filter and Choice products handle most of our orders. For multi-item purchases from one seller, the pending payment negotiation method works often enough to be worth the extra minute. During sales, we stock up on items that normally have shipping fees. Comparing total cost rather than just shipping cost has saved us more than any single trick.
FAQs
Does AliExpress have free shipping coupons?
No. AliExpress does not issue coupons that specifically eliminate shipping costs. However, platform and seller coupons reduce your order total, which can offset shipping fees. The only way to get truly free shipping is through sellers who offer it, Choice products, or negotiating with sellers directly.
Why did free shipping disappear at checkout?
Shipping costs can change between the product page and checkout based on your address, package weight, and carrier availability. Always check the shipping line at checkout before paying. If it differs from the listing, the seller may have updated their shipping policy or your location falls outside their free shipping zone.
Is AliExpress Choice free shipping?
Choice products include free shipping on orders over $10 or when you buy 3+ Choice items in one order. Single Choice items under $10 may still have shipping costs unless combined with other Choice products.
How long does free shipping from AliExpress take?
Standard free shipping (AliExpress Saver, China Post) takes 30-60 days. Choice free shipping typically takes 10-15 days. Local warehouse free shipping takes 2-8 days. Faster options usually cost extra unless you find sellers offering free expedited shipping during sales.
Can I negotiate free shipping on a single item?
You can try, but success rates are low for single items. Sellers are more likely to waive shipping on multi-item orders where they profit from the combined sale. The pending payment negotiation method works best when ordering 3+ items from the same store.
