Have you ever wanted to secure a deal on AliExpress but weren’t ready to pay for it at that exact moment? Or maybe you’ve agreed on a special discount with a seller and need them to adjust the price before you pay. There’s a simple trick for this: placing an order and leaving it in “Pending Payment” status.
This method is perfectly safe and allowed on AliExpress. It’s a useful technique for several situations. This guide will show you exactly how to do it, step by step, and explain why it’s such a handy tool for savvy shoppers.
How to Create a ‘Pending Payment’ Order
Since AliExpress doesn’t offer a direct button to “order now, pay later,” we need to use a simple workaround. The process involves starting the checkout and intentionally causing a payment failure.
Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Add Items to Your Cart and Proceed to Checkout
Find the product you want and add it to your shopping cart. When you’re ready, go to your cart and click “Checkout” to move to the order confirmation page.
Step 2: Intentionally Enter Incorrect Payment Information
On the order confirmation screen, review your shipping details. Then, navigate to the “Payment Methods” section.
- If you have a card saved, select it and choose to edit the details.
- If you are entering a new card, fill in the information as usual.
Here is the crucial part: when you get to the CVV number (the 3 or 4-digit security code), deliberately enter a random, incorrect number. For example, type “123” instead of your actual code. Click “Save and confirm.”
Step 3: Attempt to Pay and Close the Page
With the incorrect CVV saved, click the final “Pay Now” button. Because the security code is wrong, the payment will fail. You will see an error message asking you to update your CVV.
At this point, do not correct the CVV. Instead, completely close the AliExpress website tab or the mobile app. If you’re using the app, make sure to close it from your phone’s background processes, not just navigate away from it.
Step 4: Confirm the ‘Pending Payment’ Status
Wait a minute, then reopen AliExpress. Go to your “My Orders” section. You will now see the item listed with the status “Pending payment” or “Awaiting payment.”
That’s it! You have successfully created an order without completing the payment. The seller has received your order request, and the price is locked in.

Why Would You Want to Do This?
Leaving an order unpaid isn’t just a neat trick; it has several practical benefits for shoppers.
- Negotiating Discounts: If you plan to buy multiple items from one seller, you can create a pending order and then message them to ask for a bulk discount or reduced shipping costs. Seeing a real order waiting for payment shows you’re a serious buyer, making sellers more likely to negotiate.
- Securing Custom Orders: For products that require customization, like tailored clothing or engraved items, sellers often ask you to place an order this way. It allows them to adjust the final price based on your specific requirements before you pay.
- Applying a Special Price from a Seller: If a seller has agreed to give you a discount on a future purchase (perhaps to resolve a previous issue), this method allows them to modify the order total to reflect the new, lower price.
- Delaying Payment: Sometimes a great deal or a coupon is about to expire, but you don’t want to pay right away. By creating a pending order, you lock in the promotional price. AliExpress gives you a generous window (usually up to 20 days) to complete the payment before the order is automatically canceled.
Once the seller adjusts the price or you are ready to pay, simply go back to your pending order, click “Pay Now,” enter your correct payment details, and complete the purchase.
